Starting your card making journey

Starting your card making journey

Do you want to make your own cards but end up being scared off by those gorgeous, elaborate creations on Pinterest?

The first rule as you set off on your own creative journey –  stop comparing yourself to others! They all started somewhere and you can be sure it was with something simple and straight forward.

Start with a simple, basic layout and materials – good card stock, some beautiful paper, some ribbon, lace or trim and perhaps an image or picture to top the card.

Have a look at our range of hand made papers. You won’t find many of these anywhere else, so your cards will be instantly unique!

The image here shows a couple of examples I have made.

In the top two I have glued a textured hand made paper onto the card. I have then topped this with another hand made paper trimmed so that it is slightly smaller; creating a frame. Before sticking down the lower part of the topping paper, apply some trim and or ribbon. Carefully fold it under the paper to neaten the ends.

And there you have it. An uniquely beautiful card that will impress your friends and loved ones.

The bottom two examples show how easy it is to create beautiful, inexpensive Christmas cards. These only have one layer of hand made paper on the card, which is topped off with a pretty gift tag tied with some matching ribbon.

I know it’s really early to be thinking about Christmas cards, but I hit the shops now and buy up on all those discounted packs of gift tags and Christmas ribbons. As you can see, they make it so easy to create a range of lovely cards.

So, round up some materials, and just have a go. Start simple. There is no right or wrong and people will appreciate your efforts.

As your confidence grows, add more detail. Look through magazines and Pinterest for inspiration. Whatever you do, enjoy yourself.

Happy card making!
